One of our newest conversions to luxury self-catering accommodation, The Old Dog House sleeps four in two bedrooms upstairs.

This conversion of one of the farm’s out-buildings, which was literally the place where the dogs lived, has been made fully accessible. With level access from the dedicated parking spot, a downstairs shower room and luxury sprung sofa bed in the living room.

There’s no pub to walk to or shop around the corner here, you’re truly in the countryside. But hop in the car and you’ll find everything you need – from great pub grub to a Post Office and village store within just ten minutes’ drive.

With views out to the Howardian Hills from almost every room, The Old Dog House is a great place to come and stay – and it lives up to its name as we’re also dog friendly. We accept one well-behaved dog in The Old Dog House at no extra charge (a second dog may be permitted at an extra charge.)

Inside you’ll find our signature home comforts –luxury Laura Ashley linens plus a kitchen well-stocked with appliances including a dishwasher, microwave, crockery, cutlery and utensils. It’s even got a hot tub in the garden which is gravelled and enclosed.

Let’s show you round

Step into the spacious hallway where there’s plenty of room to take off muddy boots, wipe down the dog and leave all of your outdoor gear from a day spent exploring the breath-taking local countryside. Or, if you prefer, space to leave your shopping bags after a spree in enchanting historic York or at the nearby McArthur Glen Designer Outlet.

On the right you’ll find the living room, with squidgy navy velvet sofas, wall-mounted TV and French doors out on to the patio. There’s lots of room to relax with friends or family after a long day so make yourselves at home.

In the kitchen there’s everything you need to cater for yourselves, with a full oven and induction hob, Belfast sink, microwave, dishwasher and integrated fridge/freezer. And with a spacious table and six chairs you can chill out and mull over the day together while dinner is made.

A modern shower-room and cosy underfloor heating complete the downstairs. Plus we’ve made sure there’s reliable wifi throughout the accommodation.

Upstairs is the master bedroom complete with four poster bed and freestanding bath in front of the Juliette balcony overlooking the Howardian Hills. (There are no neighbours, so you can be confident your modesty will be protected!) There’s also a beautifully-appointed dressing room and ensuite with shower, toilet and sink.

There’s one more bedroom which can be made up as a double or a twin and another Juliette balcony with views out to the countryside. There’s also a modern ensuite to this room with a shower and TVs in both bedrooms.

Private outside space

Outside The Old Dog House is an enclosed patio area complete with hot tub. There’s furniture for sitting out and sipping something cold on a summer’s evening while you enjoy the impressive views of North Yorkshire and Howardian Hills in the distance. Level access all the way from the front door to the dedicated parking space at the side of the building makes it easy to get wheelchairs, prams or just your shopping in through the door.

Home from home

We want you to be able to relax knowing you have everything you need for a brilliant break, so we pay particular attention to the little details. That means luxury Laura Ashley bed linen and towels and making sure the kitchen has everything you need.

We hate staying at cottages that don’t have enough crockery or the right kind of glasses, so you’ll find plenty of plates and dishes along with pint glasses, champagne flutes, hi-balls and a variety of wine glasses. If you need some wine to go in them, just ask about our delivery service!

There’s tea, coffee and a few other basics in the cupboards, plus you’ll be greeted by a welcome pack containing something special and some staples to get you going. There’s also plenty of parking so you can pull right up to the cottage.

Thrush Nest Holiday Cottages are located on what used to be a working farm. Now there’s just our farmhouse, four holiday cottages and a lodge next door which is the home of the former farm owners, Dave and Sue.

These days there’s no cattle and no noisy tractors going out at 5am, but we are a bit off the beaten path. You can’t walk to a shop or the pub, but both are available within 10 minutes’ drive (and we can help you arrange a taxi back if you all want a glass of something!)

Why not explore glorious North Yorkshire from the comfort of our beautiful cottages?
